Every 2-3 weeks I used to scrape up the courage and clean my oven. I usually wore my bright yellow gloves, sleeves rolled up, hair in a bun and I mentally prepared myself for some sweaty, scrubbing action that was usually done while I was trying to hold my breath because oven cleaners smell absolutely terrible and are super toxic!

This all while I am wondering why I am cleaning the place I cook actual food that my kids eat, with such toxic, and bad smelling products? Really??!!!

When I started to transition my home to a chemical-free home, one of the first products I tossed in the trash was my oven cleaner. No more toxic fumes in the oven for me!!! I searched high and low for the best oven cleaner replacement and found one I absolutely love using and making, and the best part of it? No more scrubbing till the sweat drips down my nose! Seriously! Who would have thought that using natural products when cleaning your oven could actually work a million times better than the chemically laden ones.

I love sharing this recipe and people are often stunned when they see how well this recipe works. It is also super cheap to make. So go and toss those yellow gloves and stinky oven cleaner. There is a much better and healthier way to get your oven sparkling clean.

Natural Oven Cleaner

What you need:

1/2 cup Baking Soda

1/4 cup White Vinegar

1 teaspoon Castile Soap (or a natural dish soap)

3 drops Lemon essential oil

3 drops Oregano/Clove essential oil (can also just use another 3 drops Lemon Essential oil)

What to do:

Gather all the ingredients and prep the oven by removing the oven racks.

Make a paste in a small glass container using 2 parts baking soda, 1 part vinegar, adding in about 3 drops of lemon essential oil and 3 drops of oregano essential oil and set aside

Spread paste all over the oven. Turn the oven on high for about 30-40 seconds, then turn off, let sit for a minimum of 1 hour or overnight

Get a washcloth or scrubber and begin scrubbing all over, residue should easily come off.

Once finished, wet a wash cloth and wipe out all remaining paste, and you should have a shiny clean oven.

Store any access paste in a glass container with a screw on top.

PS. for best results use doTERRA essential oils.

Now not only do I enjoy cleaning my oven, I absolutely love the smell of my new oven cleaner and I can truly say I will never go back to the toxic, stinky oven goop ever again.
